I got rid of my Ubuntu Hoary install on my file server mainly because I wanted to try out a new Linux distribution by Ken Vandine who is also a writer for the GNOME Journal. Well, I like it a lot. So much so that I’m quite an active volunteer. I’ve taken on the role of being the main kernel package maintainer as well as being the lead editor for anything documentation related, and lastly I’ll be helping to write each new version’s release notes.

It wasn’t that I disliked Ubuntu, but I was mad when my PowerDNS install stopped working when I upgraded from Warty to Hoary. But I’d rather support the OSS project of someone I know than someone I do not know.

FDL installed beautifully with a very nice graphical installer. It was completely braindead and easy to use. I would say that it’s on par for being as easy as Ubuntu to install. But I give it one notch up with having a nice graphical installer versus the ncurses Ubuntu installer.

I think everyone should give FDL a try. You won’t regret it. Take a look at the website for the project. You can find it here.
