I just finished upgrading the Asterisk phone server where I work to Asterisk v1.2.1 (compiled from source as recommended by everyone I’ve talked with includinig Digium). All calls sounds better including VoIP calls, and there is no more analog line echo! Hurray!

I’m currently in the process of buying my very first house. I have narrowed the search down to 2 different homes. I’ll keep you posted on which one I choose and even post some pictures of it. Right now I can say that the first home I like is 2 blocks from Butler University. The second one is in the Broad Ripple area.

Ok, guess what!? Only 6 more days until I graduate from college. How amazing is that? After 5 years and a summer in college, I will have successfully earned my B.S.E.E. (electrical engineering if you didn’t know). I can’t wait to be done and see what I am capable of doing in this life with some peaceful freetime week nights and weekends! Stay tuned, you won’t want to miss anything from this point on. ;)

Ok, as a person who is very passionate about technology, I hit the mecca of cool today. I had my very first experience in going to a Fry’s Electronics superstore. This place is unbelievable! Think of two Sam’s clubs or two Cosco’s and you have how big Fry’s is.
Their motto is, “If you can plug it in, we have it.” That is extremely accurate. The place is covered in technology ranging from computers to computer parts, stereos, TVs, appliances, atomic clocks, telescopes, oscilliscopes, and even obscure computer cables. In Indiana, they are located at I-69 and 96th street. They are just now moving into the Midwest because they are a California-based company.
While I was at Fry’s, I decided to take advantage of the low cost of DVD burners. So I bought a nice Toshiba DVD burner that runs at 16X for DVD-R. Not too shabby…all of this fun for a mere $89.99.
If you haven’t been to a Fry’s yet, I suggest you take a look at their website.

I got rid of my Ubuntu Hoary install on my file server mainly because I wanted to try out a new Linux distribution by Ken Vandine who is also a writer for the GNOME Journal. Well, I like it a lot. So much so that I’m quite an active volunteer. I’ve taken on the role of being the main kernel package maintainer as well as being the lead editor for anything documentation related, and lastly I’ll be helping to write each new version’s release notes.
It wasn’t that I disliked Ubuntu, but I was mad when my PowerDNS install stopped working when I upgraded from Warty to Hoary. But I’d rather support the OSS project of someone I know than someone I do not know.
FDL installed beautifully with a very nice graphical installer. It was completely braindead and easy to use. I would say that it’s on par for being as easy as Ubuntu to install. But I give it one notch up with having a nice graphical installer versus the ncurses Ubuntu installer.
I think everyone should give FDL a try. You won’t regret it. Take a look at the website for the project. You can find it here.

I just got back last night from my trip to visit the relatives in Phoenix, AZ. The weather was absolutely beautiful there. It was 70 – 75 degrees F everyday and perfectly sunny (minus one rainy/cloudy day). We went down to Tuscon on one day and climb Gates Pass which is a spectacular view of the greater Tuscon area. We also had a nice picnic in the Old Tuscon cactus desert. The worst part of the trip was coming home to cold and dreary Indianapolis. Oh yeah, and the subpar road infrastructure stuck out like a sore thumb last night a lot. I won’t consider Indy a great modern city until they time their traffic lights and give wider traffic lanes with proper safety reflectors to mark lanes. It’s just plainly dangerous to drive around this city. Ah well, enough road ranting for one night.

Just wanted to let everyone who reads my blog know that a brand new version of GNOME Journal should be out either tonight or tomorrow night. I am finishing up editing several of the articles and converting them from HTML to textile. It isn’t a hard process, but it takes a bit of time since I also have to make thumbnails for all of the images that everyone submits with their articles. Sheesh.
Oh yeah, if you read my blog, leave me a comment! I’ve never gotten a comment on my blog yet and am wanting one! :)
